This set of brief pieces is intended as a respectful tribute to one of my childhood icons - Astronaut Neil Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) - the first human being to walk on the surface of the moon.
I have utilized David N. Johnson's tune EARTH AND ALL STARS for recurrent thematic material within the movements. (More easily detected in some than others.)
The movements are not intended to be programmatic in any linear fashion but are more 'musical commentaries on the spirit of audacious exploration and possibly the hopefulness that the concept of space exploration once held and (possibly) where we have gone (or not gone) since then.
Instrumentation includes (in all cases) the Pipeloops.com Silbermann organ sample set for the Hauptwerk virtual pipe organ, and in some cases one or more of the following:
Kurzweil K-250 Synthesizer, Korg MS-2000 Synthesizer, Roland D-50 Synthesizer, Korg Delta Synthesizer, and various audio samples.
Strictly speaking, these works are not 'through composed' although the listener might notice some recurrent motifs in addition to the hymn tune.
